LASER CUTTING / SHEET METAL PROCUREMENT
Digital Fabrication Drawing Readiness Guide
Prepare supplier-ready geometry and fabrication notes before ordering laser-cut, bent or machined parts from an online manufacturing service.
Geometry and units
- State drawing units explicitly and avoid mixed-unit ambiguity.
- Provide closed profiles and remove duplicate or overlapping geometry before CAM handoff.
- Identify the finished dimensions that are functionally critical rather than relying on visual scale.
Process-specific assumptions
- Confirm material, thickness, finish and quantity.
- For bends, identify inside radius, bend direction and validated bend deduction/allowance practice.
- For profile cutting, let the supplier CAM system apply kerf compensation unless the supplier specifically requests compensated geometry.
Acceptance evidence
- Define tolerances only where required by function.
- Identify inspection dimensions and datum intent.
- Retain revision-controlled source geometry and supplier manufacturing files for traceability.
