ISO 10218:2025 Industrial Robot Safety Update
The current ISO 10218-1:2025 and ISO 10218-2:2025 editions separate industrial-robot product requirements from integration requirements for robot applications and cells.
What changed for procurement work
- Use the current 2025 editions when defining new robot and robot-cell project requirements rather than relying on the withdrawn 2011 editions.
- Robot hardware compliance and application integration are separate engineering scopes, so procurement should request evidence for both where applicable.
- Application hazards created by tooling, process equipment, material handling and human access remain part of the cell-level engineering review.
How PROFENG uses the standards
- PROFENG cost and ROI tools keep safety engineering as a separate requirement rather than assigning compliance from a commercial estimate.
- Supplier comparisons should include risk assessment, safeguarding, validation, maintenance access and change-control evidence alongside price and cycle time.
- Final compliance decisions remain the responsibility of qualified parties applying the standards, local regulations and the actual application design.
