PCB Prototype & Manufacturing Supplier Guide

Evaluate PCB prototype and low-volume manufacturing suppliers using capability, stack-up control, DFM, assembly, testing, traceability, lead time and landed cost.

What to compare

  • Layer count, material, copper weight, impedance, via and minimum-feature capability.
  • DFM review, fabrication notes, stack-up confirmation and controlled-impedance evidence.
  • Assembly capability, component sourcing, substitutions and counterfeit controls.
  • AOI, electrical test, X-ray, functional test and quality documentation.
  • Prototype versus production lead time, expedite options and capacity.
  • Shipping, duties, rework, scrap, tooling and total landed cost.

Questions for shortlisted suppliers

  • Which design rules are guaranteed for the selected process?
  • How are component substitutions approved?
  • What inspection and test records are supplied with each lot?
  • How are nonconformances and rework handled?
  • Can the supplier scale from prototype to repeat production without redesign?
