CNC / PRECISION PROTOTYPING

CNC Prototyping Supplier RFQ Guide

Prepare CNC machining RFQs with controlled drawings, material, datums, tolerances, finishes, inspection and quantity assumptions so supplier quotes are technically comparable.

Release controlled requirements

  • Provide drawing and model revision, units, material specification, heat treatment and quantity on one controlled package.
  • Use datums and tolerances where function requires them instead of blanket tight tolerances.
  • Identify threaded features, surface finish, edge breaks, marking and cosmetic requirements explicitly.

Normalize quote scope

  • Separate programming/setup, machining, material, finishing, inspection, certificates and shipping when comparing suppliers.
  • State whether material substitutions or process alternatives require written approval.
  • Compare lead time from a common release condition and include first-article requirements.

Quality and repeatability

  • Define inspection evidence for critical dimensions and characteristics.
  • Retain approved inspection data and nonconformance history for repeat suppliers.
  • Use a pilot or first-article lot before committing critical production volume to an unproven source.

Engineering-use note. This PROFENG resource is for screening, comparison and technical preparation. Replace assumptions with project data and use the responsible qualified professional, applicable standards, codes and authority requirements for final design, compliance or safety decisions.

Commercial independence

PROFENG may display a separately disclosed approved partner after the engineering content. Partner status never changes formulas, conversion factors, procurement criteria, technical references or calculation results. Pending and unapproved programs remain hidden.
