SHEET METAL / DIGITAL FABRICATION
Sheet Metal & Digital Fabrication Supplier RFQ Guide
Prepare supplier-ready RFQs for laser-cut and formed sheet-metal parts with controlled geometry, material, tolerances, bend assumptions, finish, inspection and logistics requirements.
Release manufacturable geometry
- Provide controlled 2D and 3D files with revision identity, units, material, thickness and part quantity stated consistently.
- Call out critical dimensions and tolerances rather than applying unnecessarily tight blanket tolerances to the whole part.
- Define hole, slot, edge-distance, bend-relief and formed-feature requirements that materially affect manufacturability.
Normalize supplier scope
- Separate cutting, forming, hardware insertion, welding, deburring, finishing, inspection, packaging and shipping when comparing quotes.
- State grain direction, cosmetic surfaces, coating or plating requirements and masked areas where they affect process selection.
- Compare lead time and price at the same quantity breaks and with the same assumptions about supplied versus supplier-procured material.
Acceptance and repeatability
- Define inspection requirements for critical dimensions, threads, hardware, finish and flatness or form where needed.
- Use a first-article or controlled pilot quantity when geometry or forming risk is significant before releasing larger production lots.
- Retain approved drawings, models, inspection results and supplier process notes so repeat orders use the same technical baseline.
