COMPONENT SOURCING
Electronic Components Supplier Evaluation Guide
Evaluate electronic-component suppliers using traceability, authorized sourcing, part identity, lifecycle risk, storage, inspection, counterfeit controls, lead time and total landed cost.
Part identity and source
- Control manufacturer part number, package, grade and revision instead of accepting description-level substitutes.
- Record whether supply is authorized, franchised, brokered or customer-supplied and apply risk controls accordingly.
- Check lifecycle and allocation risk for components that can stop production.
Quality evidence
- Require traceability and handling evidence appropriate to component risk and product requirements.
- Define incoming inspection and escalation for suspect, damaged or nonconforming material.
- For brokered or obsolete parts, apply enhanced authenticity and test requirements rather than relying on visual appearance alone.
Commercial normalization
- Compare minimum order, pack quantity, lead time, freight, duties and cancellation terms on the same basis.
- Include shortage and line-stop exposure in sourcing decisions for critical parts.
- Maintain approved-source and alternates records so urgent purchases still follow controlled engineering decisions.
