Sensible Heat Energy Calculator: worked example

This example is generated from PROFENG's own default input set and the implemented relationship. It is not copied from a cited publication.

Relationship

Q = m cp ΔT

This calculator determines heat energy from mass, specific heat, temperature change. Use it to screen energy, temperature and heat-transfer relationships with explicitly stated properties and boundary conditions.

Inputs

  • Mass (mass) = 100 kg
  • Specific heat (cp) = 4.186 kJ/(kg·K)
  • Temperature change (deltaT) = 20 K

Working

(100)*(4.186)*(20) = 8,372 kJ

Heat energy: 8,372 kJ

Assumptions and limits

  • Properties entered by the user are treated as constant over the calculation unless the formula explicitly varies them.
  • Temperatures and temperature differences must use the unit convention shown by the calculator.
  • The model is lumped or one-dimensional where implied by the displayed relationship.
  • No phase change is represented.
  • The entered specific heat is treated as constant over the temperature interval.
  • Mass, specific heat and temperature difference use the calculator's compatible unit basis.
  • Heat losses, work interactions and other energy terms are excluded unless represented separately.
