ALUMINIUM MATERIAL SOURCING

Aluminium Sheet, Plate & Stock Procurement Guide

Prepare aluminium material orders using alloy, temper, product form, thickness, dimensional tolerance, surface condition, certification, quantity and downstream fabrication requirements instead of generic grade descriptions.

Specify the material unambiguously

  • State alloy and temper together; alloy number alone does not define the delivered mechanical condition.
  • Define sheet, plate or other product form, nominal thickness, dimensions, quantity and the governing material specification where required.
  • Call out surface, protective film, flatness or cosmetic requirements only where they are functionally needed.

Match stock to fabrication

  • Consider bendability, machining, welding, corrosion environment, anodizing or coating and final tolerances before choosing the stock condition.
  • Allow sufficient edge and machining allowance when cut stock will be finish-machined after receipt.
  • For sheet-metal work, coordinate stock thickness and temper with the fabricator's bend tooling and process assumptions.

Receipt and traceability

  • Define whether material certificates, heat/lot traceability or specific inspection records are required before ordering.
  • Inspect quantity, dimensions, damage and identification at receipt before material is mixed into uncontrolled stock.
  • Retain the purchase specification and certification with the job when material identity affects design or compliance.
